Six of the nine pages Google ranks for the phrase, and the answer ChatGPT gives, are about onboarding employees: paperwork, e-signatures, I-9 forms, first-day checklists. That is BambooHR, Paylocity, Rippling, Gusto, Workday, and their peers, and if that is what you need, this page is not for you. This page is about the other market: onboarding users and customers to a software product, so they learn it, adopt it, and stop opening tickets. It groups the tools by the job they do, lists what each one costs on its own pricing page as of September 12, 2026, and says where each is the better buy.\n\n## The 30-second answer\n\nThere is no single best onboarding tool, because four different jobs hide behind the phrase. Start from the job.\n\n### You want guidance inside your own product\n\nTooltips, checklists, and tours that appear in your logged-in app, targeted by segment, with analytics on the same users. That is in-app guidance: Appcues, Userpilot, Pendo, UserGuiding, Chameleon, Userflow, Product Fruits, and the enterprise digital adoption platforms WalkMe and Whatfix. Expect $111 to $500 per month at entry, priced by active users, or a sales call.\n\n### You want a walkthrough people use before or outside the product\n\nA clickable demo for the website or a sales follow-up (Supademo, Storylane, Navattic, Arcade), or a guide and a video for the help center, the LMS, or an email (Guidde, Trainn, Scribe, Tango, Layerpath). Nothing to install in your app. Entry prices run $19 to $50 per creator.\n\n### You want to deliver and track courses\n\nA customer training LMS: Skilljar, Docebo, Thought Industries, or TalentLMS. Content is usually made elsewhere and enrolled here. Three of the four publish no price; TalentLMS starts at $119 per month billed yearly for up to 40 users.\n\n## First decide what you are replacing\n\nThe tools on this page are not interchangeable, and most bad purchases start by comparing a $19 tool with a $500 one as if they did the same thing. Name the job first.\n\n### 1. In-app guidance your PM can change without engineering\n\nYou want tooltips, checklists, and tours in your own app, and you want a product manager to edit them without a deploy. Every tool in the in-app group does this. The price is a JavaScript snippet in your product and a bill that grows with your active users.\n\n### 2. A guided demo people click through before they sign up\n\nMarketing and sales want a replica of the product a prospect can drive on the website or in a follow-up email. That is the interactive demo job, and it needs nothing installed in your app.\n\n### 3. A guide and a video that live in the help center\n\nSupport and customer education want the same walkthrough as a step-by-step page and as a narrated video, embedded where customers already look. This is the capture-based job: record the workflow once, publish the formats.\n\n### 4. An academy with enrollments, completion, and certificates\n\nCustomer education at scale needs courses, learner tracking, and sometimes SCORM. That is an LMS. The content still has to come from somewhere, which is why LMS buyers usually also buy a tool from group 3.\n\n## Onboarding software at a glance\n\nEvery tool with a public price, grouped by job. \"No public price\" means the vendor's pricing page asks for a sales call and shows no figure. Prices are as displayed on each vendor's own page.\n\n| Tool | Job | Free tier | Entry paid plan | Priced by | Checked |\n| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |\n| Appcues | In-app guidance | None; trial via sales call | Spark $3,600 per year, up to 1,000 MAUs, plus $250 implementation fee. Launch $2,400 per year | Per plan | Sept 12, 2026 |\n| Scribe | Step-by-step guides | Yes: web capture, no export | Pro Personal $35 per seat per month, $25 yearly. Pro Team $17 per seat, 5-seat minimum | Per seat | Sept 11, 2026 |\n| Tango | Step-by-step guides | Yes: up to 10 users, 5 workflows | Pro $26 per user per month at 1 to 2 users, $20 at 3 or more | Per user | Sept 11, 2026 |\n| Layerpath | Tour, guide, and video from one capture | Yes: 1 creator, 3 published projects | Pro $50 per creator per month, $500 per year. Team $500 per month for 5 creators | Per creator | Sept 12, 2026 |\n| Skilljar | Customer training LMS | None | No public price | Quote plus active-user fee | Sept 12, 2026 |\n| Docebo | Learning platform | None | No public price | Quote | Sept 12, 2026 |\n| Thought Industries | Customer learning platform | None | No public price | Quote | Sept 12, 2026 |\n| TalentLMS | Cloud LMS | Yes: 5 users, 10 courses | Core $119 per month billed yearly ($1,428 per year), 1 to 40 users | User bracket | Sept 12, 2026 |\n\nTwo groups price in a way the table cannot flatten. In-app tools bill by monthly active or tracked users, so a $299 Starter plan at 2,000 MAUs is a different product from a $50 creator seat, and it grows as your product does. LMS vendors mostly publish no price at all, so any figure you see for Skilljar, Docebo, or Thought Industries on another site is a third-party estimate, not a list price.\n\n## What a team actually pays\n\nPer-seat pricing looks cheap at one seat and diverges fast. These are monthly totals from the published rates for the capture-based tools, on monthly billing where the vendor offers it.\n\n| Tool | 1 creator | 5 creators | 10 creators | 25 creators |\n| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |\n| Guidde Pro | $29 | $145 | $290 | $725 |\n| Tango Pro | $26 | $100 | $200 | $500 |\n| Scribe | $35 (Pro Personal) | $85 (Pro Team) | $170 | $425 |\n| Supademo Scale | $50 | $250 | $500 | $1,250 |\n| Arcade Growth | $50 | $250 | $500 | Above the 10-user cap; Enterprise, custom |\n| Layerpath | $50 (Pro) | $500 (Team, 5 creators included) | Team supports up to 14 creators; the extra-creator rate is not published | Enterprise, from $10,000 per year |\n| Trainn | $19 (Creator, 1 user only) | Launch, $2,400 per year | Launch or Scale ($10,000 per year) | Scale or Enterprise ($39,900 per year) |\n\nRead the table with the job in mind. Guidde's Business plan covers up to five creators at $59 per month, which undercuts its own Pro rate at five seats. Scribe's team rate needs five seats, so a team of two pays for five. Layerpath is the most expensive capture-based tool at one seat and at ten, and it is the only one on this list whose stated job is keeping a tour, a guide, and a video in sync after the product changes. Whether that is worth $50 a creator depends on how often your product ships.\n\n## Appcues, best for in-app flows and behavioural messaging together\n\n**Choose Appcues when the onboarding has to happen inside your app and you also want email and push from the same segments.**\n\nAppcues builds modals, tooltips, slideouts, banners, checklists, and surveys inside your product, and adds behavioural email and push. Pricing is by monthly active users, installations, and published experiences. The only public price is the Spark plan: $3,600 per year for up to 1,000 MAUs and 10 published experiences, plus a one-time $250 implementation fee, for teams of 25 or fewer. Start, Grow, and Enterprise require a sales call.\n\n### Better than Layerpath when\n\nYou need guidance rendered inside your own logged-in product, targeted by segment, with the same users tracked across in-app and email. Layerpath does not do any of this.\n\n### Not the right buy when\n\nThe walkthrough must live in a help center, an LMS, or a sales email, must also exist as a video or a printable guide, or nobody can install a snippet. The Reddit threads below are full of teams who left over price and maintenance.\n\n### Price\n\nSpark $3,600 per year plus $250 implementation, checked September 12, 2026 at appcues.com/pricing and appcues.com/spark-plan. Every other plan is a quote.\n\n### Skip it if\n\nYour active user count is small and your budget is a creator seat. At 1,000 MAUs the entry price is $300 a month before you publish an eleventh experience.\n\n## Userpilot, best for in-app onboarding with analytics on the same users\n\n**Choose Userpilot when you want flows, checklists, surveys, and product analytics in one tool and are past the seed stage.**\n\nUserpilot calls itself a product growth platform: flows, checklists, segmentation, analytics, surveys, session replay, and an AI agent. Starter is $299 per month for up to 2,000 MAUs, 3 seats, 10 segments, and one year of data retention, with NPS as the only survey type. Growth starts at $849 per month. There is a 14-day trial without a card. The page does not say whether Starter is billed monthly or annualised.\n\n### Better than Layerpath when\n\nYou want to see which users completed a flow and what they did next, inside the product, and act on it with another flow. That analytics loop is the product; Layerpath has no in-app layer to measure.\n\n### Not the right buy when\n\nThe content is for prospects, for a help center, or for customers who will never see your logged-in app. A Reddit commenter's summary, \"gets expensive fast\", refers to reaching the full feature set.\n\n### Price\n\nStarter $299 per month at 2,000 MAUs, Growth from $849, checked September 12, 2026 at userpilot.com/pricing.\n\n### Skip it if\n\nYou have fewer than a few thousand active users and mostly need content, not experiments. Six capture-based tools on this page cost less than one month of Starter for a year.\n\n## Pendo, best when analytics come first and a free tier matters\n\n**Choose Pendo when product analytics is the primary purchase and in-app guides are the second, and your MAUs fit the free plan or your budget fits a quote.**\n\nPendo covers analytics, in-app guides, session replay, and sentiment surveys. Pendo Free supports up to 500 MAUs with analytics, guides, and Pendo-branded NPS. Base, Core, and Ultimate are all custom pricing, with a 30-day trial arranged through sales.\n\n### Better than Layerpath when\n\nYou need retention and path analytics on your own users, with guides as the intervention. That is a different category from producing walkthroughs.\n\n### Not the right buy when\n\nYou are early stage and want a price on the page. The highest-scored thread in our Reddit set, 72 points, opens with a founder who looked at Pendo's pricing and \"almost fell off my chair\".\n\n### Price\n\nFree up to 500 MAUs; paid tiers are a quote. Checked September 12, 2026 at pendo.io/pricing.\n\n### Skip it if\n\nYou would be buying it for the guides. The guides are one feature of an analytics platform, and the platform is what you pay for.\n\n## UserGuiding, best for in-app guidance at the lowest published entry price\n\n**Choose UserGuiding when you want in-app guides, hotspots, checklists, and a knowledge base with a published price and no engineering dependency.**\n\nUserGuiding is the in-app tool Reddit recommends as the affordable option, with the caveat that many of those recommendations come from its own account. Starter is from $174 per month billed yearly for 2,000 MAUs and one seat; Growth from $349 billed yearly. Monthly billing prices are not shown. There is a 14-day trial.\n\n### Better than Layerpath when\n\nYou want the guidance inside the product and the price on the page. Among in-app tools with published prices, this is the lowest entry point.\n\n### Not the right buy when\n\nYou need the content outside the app, or you need more than one author on the entry plan; Starter is one seat.\n\n### Price\n\nStarter from $174 per month billed yearly at 2,000 MAUs, checked September 11, 2026 at userguiding.com/pricing.\n\n### Skip it if\n\nYour team documents workflows for a help center rather than building in-app tours, or your budget is under $100 a month. Tango's free workspace or Layerpath's Free plan covers the first case at $0.\n\n## Supademo, best for a clickable demo before signup\n\n**Choose Supademo when the onboarding moment is before signup and the artifact is a demo a prospect drives.**\n\nSupademo builds interactive demos from a capture, with screen and webcam recording and video and PDF export. Free covers 5 guided demos, 50 video recordings, and 1 creator. Scale is $50 per creator per month, $38 yearly; Growth is $450 per month ($350 yearly) for 5 creators. Views are unlimited on every tier.\n\n### Better than Layerpath when\n\nThe job is a marketing or sales demo where clickable exploration matters more than a guide or a narrated video, and the free tier covers a solo marketer.\n\n### Not the right buy when\n\nThe same capture must also become a step-by-step guide and a video that get edited together when the UI changes. Supademo exports video, but the demo is the product.\n\n### Price\n\nScale $50 per creator per month or $38 yearly, checked September 11, 2026 at supademo.com/pricing.\n\n### Skip it if\n\nYour customers will never click through a demo because they already have the product. Then you need help content, not a sales demo.\n\n## Guidde, best for AI-narrated how-to videos at the lowest price\n\n**Choose Guidde when the output should be a short narrated video with a written version alongside, and price per creator matters most.**\n\nGuidde captures a workflow and produces an AI-narrated how-to video and a step-by-step document. Free covers up to 25 videos with web capture and link sharing. Pro is $29 per creator per month, $19 yearly; Business is $59 ($39 yearly) for up to 5 creators. Viewers are free.\n\n### Better than Layerpath when\n\nA solo creator wants the cheapest narrated video from a capture. At $19 to $29, Guidde is the lowest-priced tool in the guides and video group.\n\n### Not the right buy when\n\nYou also need an interactive tour, or you need three formats to stay in sync after every release. Guidde has almost no independent discussion on Reddit; it appears inside Scribe and Loom threads, where one MSP said it \"knocked it out of the park\" and another user \"didn't really like Guidde that much\".\n\n### Price\n\nPro $29 per creator per month or $19 yearly, checked September 11, 2026 at guidde.com/pricing.\n\n### Skip it if\n\nYour walkthroughs need to be clicked through, not watched.\n\n## Trainn, best when you want a hosted academy bundled with the content\n\n**Choose Trainn when you want videos and guides plus a customer academy, in-app tutorials, and learner tracking from one vendor.**\n\nTrainn is a customer education platform for SaaS: videos, step-by-step and interactive guides, a knowledge hub, an LMS-style academy, and in-app tutorials. Creator is $19 per month, monthly only, for 1 user and 15 videos and guides. Launch is $2,400 per year, Scale $10,000, Enterprise $39,900. There is no free plan; the trial is 14 days by the FAQ and 3 days by the Creator card.\n\n### Better than Layerpath when\n\nYou want the academy, enrollments, and tracking in the same subscription as the content. Layerpath does not manage courses, enrollments, or learner progress.\n\n### Not the right buy when\n\nYou need more than one creator on a budget; the step from Creator at $19 to Launch at $2,400 per year is the whole gap. Trainn was not mentioned in any of the 22 onboarding threads we read.\n\n### Price\n\nCreator $19 per month for one user; Launch $2,400 per year. Checked September 12, 2026 at trainn.co/pricing.\n\n### Skip it if\n\nYou already have a help center or LMS and only need the walkthroughs that go inside it.\n\n## Layerpath, best when the same walkthrough must stay current as a tour, a guide, and a video\n\n**Choose Layerpath when re-recording the same onboarding walkthrough after every release is the cost you actually feel, and you need it as a tour, a guide, and a video.**\n\nLayerpath captures a product workflow once, from a screen recording, screenshots, a Loom link, or the Chrome extension, and produces three outputs from the same project: an interactive tour the viewer clicks through, a searchable step-by-step guide, and a narrated video. When the product changes, you edit the step that changed and republish all three. That maintenance step is Layerpath's own claim for itself, stated on its pages; no other vendor in this set names it, and we have not measured it against them.\n\n### Better than the rest of this group when\n\nThree formats must stay in sync after a UI change, view-only members must be free at team scale, and the content lives outside the product: help center, LMS, email, sales follow-up.\n\n### Not the right buy when\n\nYou need guidance inside your own logged-in app (there is no snippet or SDK), an LMS with enrollments, a documentation CMS, a screen recorder, or a video editor. Layerpath's own AI information page lists all of these as things not to recommend it for.\n\n### Price\n\nFree for 1 creator with unlimited projects, 3 published at a time, and 5 watermarked video exports a month. Pro $50 per creator per month or $500 per year, up to 3 creators, no watermark, 1 custom domain. Team $500 per month for 5 creators, $5,000 per year. Enterprise from $10,000 per year. Checked September 12, 2026 at layerpath.com/pricing.\n\n### Skip it if\n\nYour product rarely changes, or one format is enough. Guidde at $19, Tango at $22, and Scribe at $25 are cheaper at one seat, and this page would rather you knew that.\n\n## TalentLMS, best for a priced customer training LMS\n\n**Choose TalentLMS when you need courses, enrollments, and completion tracking for customers and want the price on the page.**\n\nTalentLMS is a cloud LMS priced by the users who log in each month. Free covers up to 5 users and 10 courses with no time limit. Core is $119 per month billed yearly ($1,428 per year) for 1 to 40 users, with unlimited courses, a custom domain, and SSO; Grow and Pro raise the user bracket to 70 and 100. It is the only LMS in this set that publishes a price.\n\n### Better than Layerpath when\n\nYou need enrollments, certificates, completion tracking, SCORM, and an academy portal. Layerpath makes content that embeds into an LMS; it does not replace one.\n\n### Not the right buy when\n\nThe problem is producing and maintaining the walkthroughs themselves. An LMS delivers content; it does not capture a product workflow.\n\n### Price\n\nCore $119 per month billed yearly for up to 40 users, checked September 12, 2026 at talentlms.com/prices. Monthly billing is offered at a higher rate that we did not confirm visually.\n\n### Skip it if\n\nYou have fewer than five customer learners, where the free plan is enough, or your customers already have an LMS you can publish into.\n\n## What the pricing pages leave out\n\n- **Active-user pricing grows on its own.** Appcues, Userpilot, UserGuiding, Chameleon, Userflow, and Product Fruits bill by MAU or MTU. The entry price is the price at the smallest tier; a successful product moves you up the ladder without a decision.\n- **Six vendors publish no price.** Pendo's paid tiers, WalkMe, Whatfix, Skilljar, Docebo, and Thought Industries all end in a sales call. One Reddit commenter's rule: \"I don't talk to companies that hide pricing.\"\n- **Implementation fees.** Appcues Spark carries a $250 one-time fee. Skilljar's add-ons are priced from $10,000 for content syndication and $25,000 for the data connector.\n- **Seat minimums.** Scribe Pro Team needs five seats. Storylane's Starter card says \"Minimum 2 Seats\" under its integrations line; we could not confirm what that means at checkout.\n- **Installation.** Every in-app tool needs a JavaScript snippet or SDK in your product, which means an engineer, a release, and a dependency on your DOM. Threads below describe tours \"pinned to selectors\" that break when the UI ships.\n- **Trials versus free tiers.** Pendo, TalentLMS, Supademo, Storylane, Navattic, Arcade, Guidde, Scribe, Tango, and Layerpath have a free plan you can keep. Appcues, Userpilot, UserGuiding, Chameleon, Userflow, Product Fruits, and Trainn offer a trial that ends.\n\n## What people say on Reddit\n\nReddit outranks every vendor site as a cited source in AI answers about these tools, so it is worth reading the threads directly. We read 22 threads on onboarding software from the last two years, skipping replies from vendor and founder accounts, which are common. Five representative quotes, verbatim:\n\n> \"Ok so I finally looked into Pendo pricing and almost fell off my chair.\"\n\nFounder post, r/SaaS, January 2026, the highest-scored thread in the set at 72 points. [Thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/SaaS/comments/1qo1ynk/pendo_is_way_too_expensive_for_my_stage_what_are/).\n\n> \"They've gotten insanely expensive. I love the features: onboarding, tooltips, surveys, etc. But nobody should have to pay $500+/month for this stuff.\"\n\nProduct manager post about Userflow and Appcues, r/ProductManagement, November 2025. [Thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/ProductManagement/comments/1p1tmxi/what_are_the_best_alternatives_to_userflow_and/).\n\n> \"Appcues and Chameleon are honestly great products -- I saw both demos. But the prices on both have crept up over the years to the point where I'm looking at alternatives.\"\n\nCustomer success post, r/CustomerSuccess, December 2025. [Thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/CustomerSuccess/comments/1pmcakr/alternatives_to_chameleon_appcues_and_userpilot/).\n\n> \"6 weeks turns into 12 and then your PM pings you every time they want to change a tooltip\"\n\nDeveloper comment on building in-app tours in-house, r/webdev, January 2026. [Comment](https://www.reddit.com/r/webdev/comments/1qr076w/hopscotch_vs_pendo_vs_appcues_vs_just_building_it/o2klkrw/).\n\n> \"The only thing that really seem to matter is pricing.\"\n\nFounder post asking whether the no-code onboarding tools are all the same, r/SaaS, April 2025. [Thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/SaaS/comments/1jqpm7w/is_it_just_me_or_are_these_nocode_onboarding/).\n\nThree patterns run through the 22 threads. Price is the first complaint, and hidden pricing is the second. Maintenance is the third: tours pinned to CSS selectors that break when the UI ships, and separate flows to maintain for each user role. Several threads also spend their first replies sorting out whether the asker wants an in-app tool or a pre-signup demo tool, which is the confusion the job list at the top of this page is meant to end.\n\n## Where Layerpath fits, and where it does not\n\n**Layerpath belongs in one of the four groups, guides and video from one source, and only there.**\n\nIt does not render guidance inside your product: there is no snippet, no SDK, and the Chrome extension is a capture input, not a delivery layer. It does not manage courses, enrollments, or learner progress. It is not a documentation CMS, a screen recorder, or a video editor. If your job is one of those, use the table above and skip the rest of this section.\n\nInside its group, where it produces [step-by-step guides](https://www.layerpath.com/features/step-by-step-guide) for [customer education](https://www.layerpath.com/usecases/customer-education) teams, three things are true at once. Layerpath is the most expensive tool per creator at one seat: $50 against Guidde at $19 to $29, Tango at $22 to $26, and Scribe at $25 to $35. It is cheaper than every priced in-app or LMS platform at team size: Team at $500 per month for five creators against Userpilot Growth from $849, Userflow at $400 to $500 for 1,000 MAUs, or Trainn Launch at $2,400 per year for a smaller bundle. And it is the only tool in the capture-based groups whose stated job is keeping the tour, the guide, and the video in sync when the product changes, by editing the step rather than recording again.\n\n| Question | Layerpath's answer |\n| --- | --- |\n| Guidance inside my logged-in app? | No. Use the in-app group. |\n| A demo prospects click through before signup? | Yes, the tour output, embedded on a page or shared by link. Supademo, Storylane, Navattic, and Arcade are built for this job first. |\n| A step-by-step guide for the help center? | Yes, the guide output, searchable, embeddable. |\n| A narrated video? | Yes, generated from the captured workflow with AI voiceover; no camera, no avatars. |\n| Courses, enrollments, certificates? | No. Publish into an LMS instead. |\n| What happens when the UI changes? | Edit the step that changed and republish the tour, guide, and video. This is Layerpath's own claim. |\n| Price at one creator, monthly | $50 (Pro). Free plan available with watermarked exports. |\n\nThe honest summary: if your onboarding content is re-recorded after every release and shipped in more than one format, the maintenance model is the reason to pay more per seat. If it is recorded once and rarely touched, a cheaper tool is the better buy.\n\n## The market is separating into layers\n\nComparing prices across these three layers tells you little, because they are not selling the same thing.\n\n### 1. Guidance inside the product\n\nAppcues, Userpilot, Pendo, UserGuiding, Chameleon, Userflow, Product Fruits, WalkMe, Whatfix. A snippet in your app, priced by active users, with analytics on those users. Right when the moment of confusion is inside your product and you can measure it there. The most expensive layer and the one with the most maintenance complaints.\n\n### 2. Content captured from the product\n\nSupademo, Storylane, Navattic, and Arcade for interactive demos; Guidde, Trainn, Scribe, Tango, and Layerpath for guides and video. Nothing installed in your app, priced per creator, viewers usually free. Right when the content lives on the website, in the help center, in email, or in an LMS. Layerpath sits here, at the top of its price band, with maintenance as its argument.\n\n### 3. Delivery and tracking\n\nSkilljar, Docebo, Thought Industries, TalentLMS. Courses, enrollments, completion. Right when you must prove who learned what. Mostly unpriced, and dependent on layer 2 for the content itself.\n\n## Frequently asked questions\n\n### What tools do you recommend for user onboarding that happen inside the product?\n\nAppcues, Userpilot, Pendo, UserGuiding, Chameleon, Userflow, and Product Fruits all render tooltips, checklists, and tours inside your logged-in app without code changes after the initial snippet. Published entry prices run from $111 per month (Product Fruits, billed annually, 1,500 MAUs) to $500 (Userflow, monthly, 1,000 MAUs). Pendo is free up to 500 MAUs. WalkMe and Whatfix are enterprise platforms without public prices. Layerpath is not an in-app tool.\n\n### Is it just me or are these no-code onboarding tools kind of the same?\n\nWithin the in-app layer, the core feature set (tours, tooltips, checklists, surveys, segmentation) is similar across vendors, which is why the Reddit thread that asked this concluded that pricing was the deciding factor. The differences are in analytics depth, MAU pricing, and how tours survive UI changes. Across layers the tools are not the same at all: an in-app tool, a demo builder, a guide tool, and an LMS do four different jobs.\n\n### Which is better for digital adoption, WalkMe or Pendo?\n\nNeither publishes a price, and both are bought by enterprises after a sales process. Pendo leads with analytics and has a free tier up to 500 MAUs; WalkMe leads with guided flows across web, desktop, and SAP, sold for employees and for customers. Reddit users describe both as expensive and, in one comment, \"notoriously brittle\" when the UI changes. For a team under enterprise size, the priced in-app tools above are the realistic comparison.\n\n### Is there a real difference between onboarding tools and demo-style tour platforms?\n\nYes. Onboarding tools (in-app guidance) run inside your product for logged-in users and need a snippet installed. Demo platforms (Supademo, Storylane, Navattic, Arcade) build a clickable replica of your product that runs anywhere, for people who do not have an account yet. Layerpath's tour output is closer to the second: it is captured from the product and embedded outside it.\n\n### Why is it so hard to find the most affordable product tour software for early-stage SaaS?\n\nBecause the in-app layer prices by active users and mostly starts at $111 to $500 per month, and the cheaper tools are in a different layer. If your onboarding can live outside the app, Tango's free workspace (up to 10 users, 5 workflows), Layerpath's Free plan (1 creator, 3 published projects), Supademo Free (5 demos), and Storylane Free (1 demo) all cost $0. If it must be in the app, Pendo Free covers 500 MAUs and Product Fruits starts at $111 billed annually.\n\n### What is the best free onboarding software?\n\nFor in-app guidance: Pendo Free, up to 500 MAUs. For a clickable demo: Supademo Free, Storylane Free, Navattic Free, or Arcade Free, each limited to about one live demo. For guides and video: Tango Free (10 users, 5 workflows), Scribe Basic (web capture, no export), Guidde Free (25 videos), or Layerpath Free (1 creator, 3 published projects, watermarked video). For an LMS: TalentLMS Free, 5 users and 10 courses.\n\n### Does Layerpath replace an onboarding tool like Appcues?\n\nNo. Layerpath does not render anything inside your product. It produces a tour, a guide, and a video from a captured workflow for use outside the product: help center, LMS, website, email, sales follow-up. Teams that need in-product guidance buy from the in-app layer; teams that need content that stays current across formats buy from the capture layer; some need both.\n\n## Methodology and sources\n\nEvery price on this page is as displayed on the vendor's own pricing page on the date shown. Where a vendor shows only an annual-billing rate, or where a monthly figure was visible only in page code rather than on screen, we state the annual-billing figure and say so. No third-party price estimates are used. Reddit quotes are verbatim, 40 words or fewer, from threads posted in the last 24 months, with replies from vendor or founder accounts excluded from the selection. Where a number here disagrees with a vendor's page, the vendor's page is correct.\n\n### Vendor pricing pages, checked September 12, 2026\n\n- [Appcues pricing](https://www.appcues.com/pricing) and [Appcues Spark plan](https://www.appcues.com/spark-plan)\n- [Userpilot pricing](https://userpilot.com/pricing)\n- [Pendo pricing](https://www.pendo.io/pricing/)\n- [WalkMe pricing](https://www.walkme.com/pricing/)\n- [Chameleon plans](https://www.chameleon.io/pricing)\n- [Userflow pricing](https://www.userflow.com/pricing)\n- [Product Fruits pricing](https://productfruits.com/pricing)\n- [Storylane plans](https://www.storylane.io/pricing)\n- [Navattic pricing](https://www.navattic.com/pricing)\n- [Trainn pricing](https://trainn.co/pricing/)\n- [Skilljar pricing](https://www.skilljar.com/pricing)\n- [Docebo pricing](https://www.docebo.com/pricing/)\n- [Thought Industries pricing](https://www.thoughtindustries.com/pricing/)\n- [TalentLMS plans](https://www.talentlms.com/prices)\n- [Layerpath pricing](https://www.layerpath.com/pricing) and [Layerpath AI information](https://www.layerpath.com/ai-info)\n\n### Vendor pricing pages, checked September 11, 2026\n\n- [Whatfix pricing](https://whatfix.com/pricing/)\n- [UserGuiding pricing](https://userguiding.com/pricing)\n- [Supademo pricing](https://supademo.com/pricing)\n- [Arcade pricing](https://www.arcade.software/pricing)\n- [Guidde pricing](https://www.guidde.com/pricing)\n- [Scribe pricing](https://scribe.com/pricing)\n- [Tango pricing](https://www.tango.ai/pricing)\n\n### Search results and AI answers\n\n- Google, US desktop, \"best onboarding software\", captured September 11, 2026: six of nine organic results are HR employee onboarding (BambooHR, Gartner Peer Insights, Atlassian, Paylocity, Tango's employee onboarding list, an HR Toolbox video); Docebo, Userpilot, and an r/SaaS thread are the SaaS user and customer meaning.\n- ChatGPT (gpt-4o-mini, web search allowed), \"best onboarding software\", probed September 11, 2026: an HR list (BambooHR, Workday, Gusto, Zenefits, Lever, SAP SuccessFactors, Talmundo, ClearCompany, Trainual).
