# How to Create a Table of Contents in Google Docs

Easily organize your document by creating a structured Table of Contents in Google Docs. This feature helps readers navigate through sections quickly and efficiently.

1. Open your Google Docs document.
2. Place the cursor where you want to insert the table of contents.
3. Click on the "Insert" menu and select "Table of contents."
4. Choose the style of the table of contents (with links or plain text).
5. The table of contents will appear based on the headings in your document.
6. If you haven't applied headings, go to each section of your document, highlight the title, and choose a heading style (Heading 1, Heading 2, etc.) from the "Styles" dropdown in the toolbar.
7. Once the headings are applied, update the table of contents by right-clicking on it and selecting "Update table of contents."
