# How to Make Breakout Rooms in Zoom

This guide will provide you with a step-by-step process for creating breakout rooms in Zoom. Follow these instructions carefully to ensure a smooth setup for your meeting's breakout sessions.

1. **Open Zoom & Start a Meeting** – Launch the Zoom Desktop App and **start or schedule a meeting**.
2. **Enable Breakout Rooms (First Time Only)** –
   
      - Go to [zoom.us](https://zoom.us/) > **Sign In**
      - Click on **Settings > In Meeting (Advanced)**
      - Turn on **Breakout Room** and also check **“Allow host to assign participants…”**
3. **Click on “Breakout Rooms” Icon** – In the meeting toolbar, tap the **“Breakout Rooms”** button (only visible to hosts/co-hosts).
4. **Choose Number of Rooms** – Select how many breakout rooms you want to create.
5. **Assign Participants** –
   
      - **Automatically**: Zoom randomly places participants in rooms
      - **Manually**: You choose who goes where
      - **Let participants choose** (optional, must enable this in settings)
6. **Click “Create” and Then “Open All Rooms”** – After assigning, click **“Create”**, review the setup, then tap **“Open All Rooms”** to start.
7. **Monitor or Join Rooms** – Hosts can **join any room**, **broadcast messages**, or **close all rooms** anytime.
8. **Done** – When finished, click **“Close All Rooms”** to bring everyone back to the main meeting.
