# How to Put a Background on Zoom

This guide will walk you through the process of setting a virtual background on Zoom. Follow these step-by-step instructions to customize your Zoom background.

1. **Open Zoom App** – Launch the **Zoom Desktop App** or sign in on [zoom.us](https://zoom.us/) if you're using the web version.
2. **Join or Start a Meeting** – Enter the Zoom meeting where you want to use a background.
3. **Click on “Settings”** – Before joining or after you join, click the **gear icon** (Settings) on the top-right of the Zoom window.
4. **Go to “Background & Filters”** – In the **Settings** menu, click on **“Virtual Background”** on the left sidebar.
5. **Choose a Background** – You’ll see pre-loaded backgrounds. Click on one to set it as your background.
6. **Upload Your Own Background** –
   
      - Click on the **“+” icon** to upload a custom image or video from your computer.
      - Make sure the image or video file is high-quality for the best results.
7. **Enable “I Have a Green Screen” (Optional)** – If you have a physical green screen behind you, check the box **“I have a green screen”** for better background effects.
8. **Done** – Your background is now set! You’ll see it behind you in the meeting, and it’ll be visible to all participants.
