How to Transfer Host in Zoom

Follow these step-by-step instructions to transfer the host role to another participant in your Zoom meeting.

  1. Start or Join a Meeting – Launch Zoom and either start or join the meeting where you’re the current host.

  2. Open Participants Panel – At the bottom of the Zoom window, click on “Participants” to open the list of people in the meeting.

  3. Find the New Host – Scroll through the list and hover over the name of the person you want to make host.

  4. Click “More” – Next to their name, click the “More” button (three dots).

  5. Select “Make Host” – From the dropdown menu, click on “Make Host.”

  6. Confirm the Transfer – A confirmation box will pop up. Click “Yes” to transfer host privileges.

  7. New Host Now in Control – That participant now becomes the host, with full meeting controls.

  8. Optional – Reclaim Host (If Needed) – If you're a co-host and need to take back control, the new host can make you host again using the same steps.
