Do we receive any information from third parties? Yes, when you choose to connect them: Google, if you sign in with Google; Slack, if your company adds the Layerpath app for Slack; ChatGPT or Claude, if you connect Layerpath there; and Loom or YouTube, when you give us a link to a video. Learn more about how our integrations handle your information.
Do we use AI? Yes. AI reads your screens and recordings, writes the words for each step, places hotspots, blurs private details, translates, and makes voiceovers. We name every AI provider we use, and we don't use your content to train AI models. Learn more about how our integrations handle your information.
How do we process your information? We process your information to provide, improve, and administer our Services, communicate with you, for security and fraud prevention, and to comply with law. 1. WHAT INFORMATION DO WE COLLECT?
Personal information you disclose to us
In Short: We collect personal information that you provide to us.
We collect personal information that you voluntarily provide to us when you register on the Services, express an interest in obtaining information about us or our products and Services, when you participate in activities on the Services, or otherwise when you contact us.
Personal Information Provided by You. The personal information that we collect depends on the context of your interactions with us and the Services, the choices you make, and the products and features you use. The personal information we collect may include the following:
names
email addresses
phone numbers
company names
contact preferences
contact or authentication data
SMS/Text Messaging. We may collect your phone number when you request a product demo through our website. We use this information solely to send you transactional SMS messages related to demo scheduling and access. We do not send marketing or promotional text messages. Your mobile phone number and SMS opt-in data will not be shared with or sold to third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. You may opt out of SMS messages at any time by replying STOP. All the above categories exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third parties.
Sensitive Information. We don't ask for sensitive information, such as health data, government ID numbers, payment card numbers, passwords, API keys, or sign-in codes. Your screens may still show some. Don't record what you don't want in a tour, and use blur to hide what you do record.
Payment Data. We may collect data necessary to process your payment if you make purchases, such as your payment instrument number, and the security code associated with your payment instrument. All payment data is stored by Stripe and Chargebee. You may find their privacy notice link(s) here: https://stripe.com/en-gb-us/privacy and https://www.chargebee.com/privacy/.
Social Media Login Data. We may provide you with the option to register with us using your existing social media account details, like your Google account. If you choose to register in this way, we will collect the information described in the section called "HOW DO WE HANDLE YOUR SOCIAL LOGINS?" below.
Content you put in Layerpath. Screenshots, screen recordings, videos, audio, the words you write or ask for, and the tours, steps, guides, and voiceovers made from them. Recordings and screenshots can show whatever was on your screen, including other people's names and emails. Your workspace's Brand memory (your company name, website, voice, and style) is content too.
Information from our integrations. If you use Layerpath Agent in ChatGPT, Claude, or Slack, we receive the requests, files, links, messages, and account identifiers described in the section called "HOW DO OUR CHATGPT, CLAUDE, AND SLACK INTEGRATIONS HANDLE YOUR INFORMATION?" below.
When people view your tours. When someone opens a tour or guide you shared, we record the view: their rough location (country and city, from their internet address), browser type, the page that linked to the tour, how long they spent on each step, and a random ID for that visit. We don't put a tracking cookie on their device. If your tour has a form, we keep what viewers enter in it, such as their name, email, phone number, or feedback.
How you use Layerpath. We record which features you use in the Layerpath app, to fix problems and improve Layerpath. In the Layerpath app we also record sessions: the pages you open, where you click, and what's on the screen. Recordings don't capture text you type into fields and prompts, but text that's already part of a tour, such as step text you wrote, can still show on screen. We keep these recordings for 30 days.
Information collected automatically. When you visit our website or use the Services, our servers and analytics tools receive your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you visit, and when. Our server logs can include your IP address and browser and device information. Server logs from before October 19, 2026 may include the first 80 characters of a request made in ChatGPT or Claude. These are deleted by January 2027. Logs of billing events from Chargebee can include customers' names and email addresses.
Cookies and similar technologies. We use cookies to keep you signed in. Our website uses Google Analytics to count visits, and the Layerpath app uses PostHog for product analytics and session recordings. We don't use advertising cookies.
The Layerpath browser extension. The extension records only while you're recording. It captures the tab, window, or screen you pick, and your microphone if you turn it on. It also notes where you click and the label of what you clicked. It notes that you typed in a field, but not what you typed. Typed text can still show in the screenshots.
Voice clones. If you make a voice clone, we keep your voice samples and send them to ElevenLabs to make the voice. Only clone a voice that's yours, or one you have permission to use.
All personal information that you provide to us must be true, complete, and accurate, and you must notify us of any changes to such personal information.
2. HOW DO WE PROCESS YOUR INFORMATION?
In Short: We process your information to provide, improve, and administer our Services, communicate with you, for security and fraud prevention, and to comply with law. We may also process your information for other purposes with your consent.
We process your personal information for a variety of reasons, depending on how you interact with our Services, including:
To facilitate account creation and authentication and otherwise manage user accounts. We may process your information so you can create and log in to your account, as well as keep your account in working order.
To deliver and facilitate delivery of services to the user. We may process your information to provide you with the requested service.
To respond to user inquiries/offer support to users. We may process your information to respond to your inquiries and solve any potential issues you might have with the requested service.
To send administrative information to you. We may process your information to send you details about our products and services, changes to our terms and policies, and other similar information.
To fulfill and manage your orders. We may process your information to fulfill and manage your orders, payments, returns, and exchanges made through the Services.
To save or protect an individual's vital interest. We may process your information when necessary to save or protect an individual's vital interest, such as to prevent harm.
To create and change your tours. We use your content, and AI, to turn screens and recordings into tours, write each step, place hotspots, blur private details, translate, make voiceovers, and export videos and PDF guides.
To fix problems and keep Layerpath working. We keep short records of what was asked and what Layerpath did, for the times in "HOW LONG DO WE KEEP YOUR INFORMATION?" Only team members who need to can look at your content or these records, to answer your request, fix a problem, or keep Layerpath secure.
To keep Layerpath secure. We look for abuse and unauthorized access.
To understand how Layerpath is used, so we can improve it.
To send you emails about your account, such as sign-in links, invites, and tips. You can unsubscribe from tips at any time.
3. WHAT LEGAL BASES DO WE RELY ON TO PROCESS YOUR INFORMATION?
In Short: We only process your personal information when we believe it is necessary and we have a valid legal reason (i.e., legal basis) to do so under applicable law, like with your consent, to comply with laws, to provide you with services to enter into or fulfill our contractual obligations, to protect your rights, or to fulfill our legitimate business interests.
If you are located in the EU or UK, this section applies to you.
The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and UK GDPR require us to explain the valid legal bases we rely on in order to process your personal information. As such, we may rely on the following legal bases to process your personal information:
Consent. We may process your information if you have given us permission (i.e., consent) to use your personal information for a specific purpose. You can withdraw your consent at any time. Learn more about withdrawing your consent.
Performance of a Contract. We may process your personal information when we believe it is necessary to fulfill our contractual obligations to you, including providing our Services or at your request prior to entering into a contract with you.
Legitimate Interests. We may process your information when it's reasonably needed for our legitimate business interests and those interests don't outweigh your rights. For example: keeping short records of requests so we can fix problems, keeping Layerpath secure, and understanding how Layerpath is used so we can improve it.
Legal Obligations. We may process your information where we believe it is necessary for compliance with our legal obligations, such as to cooperate with a law enforcement body or regulatory agency, exercise or defend our legal rights, or disclose your information as evidence in litigation in which we are involved.
Vital Interests. We may process your information where we believe it is necessary to protect your vital interests or the vital interests of a third party, such as situations involving potential threats to the safety of any person.
If you are located in Canada, this section applies to you.
We may process your information if you have given us specific permission (i.e., express consent) to use your personal information for a specific purpose, or in situations where your permission can be inferred (i.e., implied consent). You can withdraw your consent at any time.
In some exceptional cases, we may be legally permitted under applicable law to process your information without your consent, including, for example:
If collection is clearly in the interests of an individual and consent cannot be obtained in a timely way
For investigations and fraud detection and prevention
For business transactions provided certain conditions are met
If it is contained in a witness statement and the collection is necessary to assess, process, or settle an insurance claim
For identifying injured, ill, or deceased persons and communicating with next of kin
If we have reasonable grounds to believe an individual has been, is, or may be victim of financial abuse
If it is reasonable to expect collection and use with consent would compromise the availability or the accuracy of the information and the collection is reasonable for purposes related to investigating a breach of an agreement or a contravention of the laws of Canada or a province
If disclosure is required to comply with a subpoena, warrant, court order, or rules of the court relating to the production of records
If it was produced by an individual in the course of their employment, business, or profession and the collection is consistent with the purposes for which the information was produced
If the collection is solely for journalistic, artistic, or literary purposes
If the information is publicly available and is specified by the regulations
4. WHEN AND WITH WHOM DO WE SHARE YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION?
In Short: We may share information in specific situations described in this section and/or with the following third parties.
We may need to share your personal information in the following situations:
Business Transfers. We may share or transfer your information in connection with, or during negotiations of, any merger, sale of company assets, financing, or acquisition of all or a portion of our business to another company.
Service Providers. Companies that host, store, and process data on our behalf to provide their service to us. The AI providers are listed in "HOW DO OUR CHATGPT, CLAUDE, AND SLACK INTEGRATIONS HANDLE YOUR INFORMATION?" The others are Amazon Web Services (hosting, storage, and video exports), Vercel (hosting the Layerpath app and share pages, and visit counts), Supabase (database), PostHog (product analytics and session recordings), Google (Google Analytics on our website, and Google sign-in), Loops (sign-in, account, and product emails), Stripe and Chargebee (payments and billing events), Dash0 (server logs), Chatwoot (the help chat in the Layerpath app; it receives the messages and contact details you send through it), and Firecrawl and Brandfetch (reading your company's website and logo for Brand memory).
Integration Platforms. When you use Layerpath Agent in ChatGPT, Claude, or Slack, we send the results of your request, such as the tour, links, and status messages, back to that service so it can show them to you.
Share Links. A published tour can be opened by anyone with its link, without a Layerpath account. A draft has no working share link.
Your Workspace. Members of a Layerpath workspace can see the tours in it. If your company runs the workspace, its admins can see and manage the tours in it.
Our Team. Our staff may get a notice in our own Slack when a company adds or removes Layerpath, or someone connects ChatGPT or Claude. It says who, which company, and which workspace.
We don't sell your personal information, we don't share it for targeted advertising, and we don't show ads.
5. HOW DO WE HANDLE YOUR SOCIAL LOGINS?
In Short: If you choose to register or log in to our Services using a social media account, we may have access to certain information about you.
Our Services offer you the ability to register and log in using your third-party social media account details (like your Google account). Where you choose to do this, we will receive certain profile information about you from your social media provider. The profile information we receive may vary depending on the social media provider concerned, but will often include your name, email address, and profile picture, as well as other information you choose to make public on such a social media platform.
We will use the information we receive only for the purposes that are described in this privacy notice or that are otherwise made clear to you on the relevant Services. Please note that we do not control, and are not responsible for, other uses of your personal information by your third-party social media provider. We recommend that you review their privacy notice to understand how they collect, use, and share your personal information, and how you can set your privacy preferences on their sites and apps.
6. HOW LONG DO WE KEEP YOUR INFORMATION?
In Short: We keep your information for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes outlined in this privacy notice unless otherwise required by law.
We will only keep your personal information for as long as it is necessary for the purposes set out in this privacy notice, unless a longer retention period is required or permitted by law (such as tax, accounting, or other legal requirements). If the law makes us keep something longer, such as payment records for tax, we keep only that, and only as long as the law asks.
Information we receive through our ChatGPT, Claude, and Slack integrations follows the retention periods in the section "HOW DO OUR CHATGPT, CLAUDE, AND SLACK INTEGRATIONS HANDLE YOUR INFORMATION?"

When we have no ongoing legitimate business need to process your personal information, we will either delete or anonymize such information, or, if this is not possible (for example, because your personal information has been stored in backup archives), then we will securely store your personal information and isolate it from any further processing until deletion is possible.
7. HOW DO WE KEEP YOUR INFORMATION SAFE?
In Short: We aim to protect your personal information through a system of organizational and technical security measures.
We have implemented appropriate and reasonable technical and organizational security measures designed to protect the security of any personal information we process. However, despite our safeguards and efforts to secure your information, no electronic transmission over the Internet or information storage technology can be guaranteed to be 100% secure, so we cannot promise or guarantee that hackers, cybercriminals, or other unauthorized third parties will not be able to defeat our security and improperly collect, access, steal, or modify your information. Although we will do our best to protect your personal information, transmission of personal information to and from our Services is at your own risk. You should only access the Services within a secure environment.
8. DO WE COLLECT INFORMATION FROM MINORS?
In Short: Layerpath is a work tool. You must be 18 or older to have an account.
Layerpath is made for businesses and the people who work at them. Our Terms require account holders to be at least 18. Layerpath isn't directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. Tours can be viewed by anyone their owner shares them with. If we learn that someone under 18 has an account, we close it and delete their personal information. If you think this has happened, email support@layerpath.com.

If you are located in Switzerland, you may contact the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner.

You can withdraw your consent at any time by contacting us by using the contact details provided in the section "HOW CAN YOU CONTACT US ABOUT THIS NOTICE?" below or updating your preferences.

However, we may still communicate with you — for example, to send you service-related messages that are necessary for the administration and use of your account, to respond to service requests, or for other non-marketing purposes.
If your company runs your Layerpath workspace, your company decides what happens to its tours. We may pass your request to your company's admins.

If you have questions or comments about your privacy rights, you may email us at support@layerpath.com.
10. CONTROLS FOR DO-NOT-TRACK FEATURES
Most web browsers and some mobile operating systems and mobile applications include a Do-Not-Track ("DNT") feature or setting you can activate to signal your privacy preference not to have data about your online browsing activities monitored and collected. At this stage no uniform technology standard for recognizing and implementing DNT signals has been finalized. As such, we do not currently respond to DNT browser signals or any other mechanism that automatically communicates your choice not to be tracked online. If a standard for online tracking is adopted that we must follow in the future, we will inform you about that practice in a revised version of this privacy notice.

15. HOW DO OUR CHATGPT, CLAUDE, AND SLACK INTEGRATIONS HANDLE YOUR INFORMATION?
In Short: When you use Layerpath Agent in ChatGPT, Claude, or Slack, we get only what Layerpath needs to create, change, and share your tours. We don't get your chat history, and we never use what we get to train AI models.
Layerpath Agent is available as an app in ChatGPT, a connector in Claude, and an app in Slack. You connect each one by signing in with your Layerpath account and choosing a Layerpath workspace. This section explains what we receive through these integrations. The rest of this privacy notice also applies.
What we receive in ChatGPT and Claude
When you connect: your Layerpath sign-in and the Layerpath workspace you pick. ChatGPT or Claude then holds a sign-in token for Layerpath. We never see your ChatGPT or Claude password.
With each request, only what that action needs: what the tour should show, the change you want, which tour or step it's about, or a Loom link you paste (or a YouTube link, in ChatGPT).
Screenshots or recordings you add in Layerpath's upload box in the chat. In ChatGPT, also the files you attached to the chat when you ask for a tour from them.
From ChatGPT, IDs that tell your chats apart. We keep only a scrambled (one-way) form of them.
The step you pick in the Layerpath editor in ChatGPT or Claude, so "this step" in your next message means that step.
We don't receive your chat history, or ChatGPT's or Claude's memory. Claude doesn't pass us the files you attach to a Claude chat. We don't build a profile of you from your requests, and we don't send what you write in ChatGPT or Claude to our product analytics.
What we send back: tour names, the words of each step, pictures of steps, share, embed, video, and PDF links, your workspace's brand voice notes when a tour uses them, and the IDs needed to find a tour again. ChatGPT and Claude keep these as part of your chat, under OpenAI's privacy policy or Anthropic's.
What we receive in Slack
When someone adds Layerpath to a Slack workspace: the Slack workspace's name and ID, the Slack ID of the person who added it, and a token that lets Layerpath read and post messages as its app. That person signs in to Layerpath and picks the Layerpath workspace that tours created in Slack go to.
Messages that mention @Layerpath, messages in a direct message with Layerpath, and replies in threads where Layerpath is working, including replies people post to each other there.
When you mention Layerpath in a thread it hasn't been in yet: the messages posted earlier in that thread, the screenshots and videos posted there, and the text of canvases shared there, so it can build on what's already been shared.
The screenshots, screen recordings, and Loom or YouTube links you share with it.
When someone posts a Layerpath link anywhere in your Slack: the link and where it was posted, so Layerpath can show a preview of that tour.
Each person's Slack ID, display name, and time zone, and whether they're a guest or from another company, so it can reply to the right person, give times in their time zone, and know who can use it.
Slack also sends us other messages from channels Layerpath is in. Unless a message is in a thread Layerpath is working in, we drop it as it arrives, without reading, using, or keeping it.
Layerpath's replies and tour previews are Slack messages. Slack keeps them under your workspace's settings and Slack's privacy policy.
How we use it
To create, edit, translate, and share the tours you ask for, and to add voiceover or export video when you ask
To save tours in the Layerpath workspace you chose. Tours created in ChatGPT or Claude show as made by you. Tours created in Slack show as made by "Layerpath Agent", and members of that Layerpath workspace can see them.
To show results back to you in ChatGPT, Claude, or Slack
To keep the Services secure, prevent abuse, and fix problems
In Slack, what people wrote in a thread goes into a tour only when someone asks for that. We keep a short memory of each thread Layerpath works in, so a reply like "make step 2 shorter" works. It holds which tour the thread is about, recent messages to and from Layerpath, what people wrote to each other in the thread (without their names), and the screenshots and videos posted there with who posted them. Guests, and people from other companies in a shared channel, can't use Layerpath in your Slack.
We do not sell this information or use it for advertising. We don't use your tours, screenshots, recordings, or messages to train AI models, and we don't use one company's Slack data for another company.
AI providers
AI reads your screenshots and recordings, writes the words for each step, places hotspots, finds and blurs private details, translates, turns speech into text, and makes voiceovers. AI can get things wrong, so check a tour before you share it.
| Provider | What it does in Layerpath | What it receives | Its privacy policy |
|---|---|---|---|
| Amazon Web Services (Amazon Bedrock), running Claude models made by Anthropic | Understands requests and writes replies in the Layerpath app for Slack | Messages sent to Layerpath, the thread text it reads, and step pictures | AWS privacy and Bedrock data protection |
| Google (Vertex AI and the Gemini API) | Reads screens and video, writes step text, places hotspots, makes edits you ask for, blurs private details, translates, reads your website for Brand memory | Screenshots, video, the words of your tour and request, your Brand memory | Google Cloud privacy notice, Gemini API terms, and Google privacy policy |
| OpenAI (API) | Turns speech into text when our main provider can't, summarizes your editing history, makes voiceovers in OpenAI voices, writes some step text | Audio from recordings, the words of your tour and edits | OpenAI privacy policy |
| Deepgram | Turns speech in recordings into text | Audio from recordings | Deepgram privacy policy |
| ElevenLabs | Makes voiceovers, and voice clones you set up in the Layerpath app | The voiceover script, and your voice samples if you make a clone | ElevenLabs privacy policy |
This table covers every AI provider Layerpath uses: in the Layerpath app, the browser extension, shared tours, and Layerpath Agent in Slack, ChatGPT, and Claude.
We don't send your information to Anthropic directly. In the Layerpath app for Slack, the Claude model runs inside Amazon Bedrock. Anthropic doesn't receive the messages, and Amazon Bedrock doesn't keep requests for the Claude models we use. Each provider keeps and uses what it receives under its own terms, linked above.
Loom and YouTube links
When you give Layerpath a link to a Loom video, or a YouTube video in ChatGPT or Slack, we download that video to create your tour. YouTube links aren't supported in Claude yet. A tour's steps are pictures taken from the video, so we need the video file itself. Loom and YouTube see a request for that video from our servers. For YouTube, the request goes out through a network provider we use to reach YouTube. We don't send them anything about you. The step pictures, and a playable copy of the video if your tour has video steps, stay with your tour until you delete it. Other copies made while downloading are deleted within 1 day.
Where we store and process it
Layerpath's servers, storage, and database are in the United States, on Amazon Web Services, Vercel, and Supabase. Some AI services we use can handle a request in another country where the provider has data centers. Amazon Bedrock can send a request to any AWS region it supports. Google's AI services may handle or briefly cache a request in any country where Google has facilities.
Members of our team who work outside the United States, including in India, may access your information to support you and keep Layerpath working.
When we move personal information out of the EEA, the UK, or Switzerland, we use the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses or another legal safeguard.
How long we keep it
Tours, and the files and links used to create them, are saved in your Layerpath workspace. We keep them until you delete them, ask us to delete them, or close your account, as described in "HOW LONG DO WE KEEP YOUR INFORMATION?"
| Information | How long we keep it |
|---|---|
| Records of requests made in Slack, ChatGPT, or Claude: which action, which tour, when, and whether it worked. Not the words of your request or of messages | 90 days |
| Copies of files sent through Slack, ChatGPT, or Claude, kept on our servers while a tour is created | 7 days. Your tour keeps its own copy. |
| Layerpath's memory of a Slack thread | 30 days after the last message or button tap in that thread, and within 7 days after Layerpath is removed from your Slack |
| The step you picked in the Layerpath editor in ChatGPT or Claude | 2 hours. Backup copies are gone within 30 days after that. |
| What you asked a new tour in ChatGPT or Claude to show, and the result of each change made there, kept so Layerpath can pick a tour up again after a restart or undo a change | 7 days. Backup copies are gone within 30 days after that. |
| Our log of AI requests to Amazon Bedrock | 1 day |
When Layerpath is removed from a Slack workspace, we drop the token Slack issued for it and delete Layerpath's memory of that workspace's threads within 7 days. Disconnecting Layerpath inside ChatGPT or Claude stops that app from calling Layerpath, but it doesn't end your Layerpath sign-in on our side. To fully revoke that access, an Owner or Admin can disconnect you in Layerpath under Settings, then Integrations, or you can email support@layerpath.com. After that, you have to connect again to use Layerpath in ChatGPT or Claude.
Your choices
You can disconnect Layerpath from ChatGPT or Claude, or remove the app from Slack, at any time. In ChatGPT, open Settings, then Apps. In Claude, open Customize, then Connectors. To remove Layerpath from Slack, use Slack's app settings, or in Layerpath open Settings, then Integrations. Owners and Admins can also disconnect people from ChatGPT or Claude there. Our support page has the steps. Disconnecting stops new information from reaching us. It does not delete tours you already created.
To delete tours, integration data, or your account, email support@layerpath.com, or submit a data subject access request. To delete what Layerpath keeps from Slack, ChatGPT, or Claude sooner, include your Slack workspace's name or the email you sign in to Layerpath with. We delete it within 30 days.
