How to Detach Component Figma

This guide provides a step-by-step process to detach a component in Figma, ensuring you can customize and modify designs with ease.

  1. Open Your Figma File – Launch Figma and open the design file that contains the component you want to detach.

  2. Select the Component Instance – Click on the component instance that you want to break away from the main component.

  3. Right-Click on the Component – Right-click on the selected instance to open the context menu.

  4. Choose “Detach Instance” – Click on Detach Instance from the menu. Alternatively, press Ctrl + Alt + B (Windows) or Cmd + Option + B (Mac).

  5. Edit Freely – The component is now detached and turned into regular layers you can edit without affecting the master component.

  6. Done – Your component is now fully detached and editable.
